Deck coverings on boats, a fastback conversion on the roadster, an aerodynamic or fluid dynamic analysis have one thing in common: For a cost-efficient process, a digital model is needed, which we create using 3D scanning.


Boat decks & deck coverings

For the production of cost-efficient deck coverings, we have developed the optimal process. We scan the boat deck, work together with the customer to determine how the deck covering should look (including joint design), and ultimately provide the file(s) with which the CNC milling machine can produce the deck covering. Minimal effort for the deck covering manufacturer, minimal costs, maximum efficiency.

Car and body modifications

Whether a small adjustment in the cockpit or a large conversion with a flat underbody, diffuser, fastback, and wing: we make it all possible. We rely on 3D scanning to capture the reference points on the vehicle and thus design and produce perfectly fitting parts with minimal time expenditure. Aero-/fluid dynamic analyses and optimisation

Do you want to know how to optimise your underwater hull so that it glides better through the water? Or do you need an aerodynamic analysis to optimise the downforce and drag on your car? No problem! We scan the hull of the boat or car in no time, conduct the relevant analyses, and develop a concept for optimising the flow behaviour together with you. Of course, we will also continue to support you in implementing the concept and produce the necessary parts in our workshop.

Small and large components - Rapid Prototyping

Do you need a unique piece or just a small quantity of components for a specific application? For example, a pivoting or depth-adjustable rudder to operate in shallow waters. Or is there a suitable spare part no longer available? With rapid prototyping, we can address this precisely and produce unique pieces and small series at minimal cost. Rapid prototyping fundamentally consists of: 3D scanning - 3D modelling - 3D printing. It doesn't matter whether we create the positive of the component and then laminate it, or build a negative mould to then produce the GRP component itself. In any case, we significantly reduce the time to the finished component and thus save a lot of costs!

Product development

We naturally use our experiences in product development (see grinding support) in the service sector as well. Whether purely mechanical or even mechatronic products: From conception to the finished product, we are happy to accompany you. We have also gained some experience in the area of patent and utility model registration and support you unreservedly in this regard. Data protection and confidentiality are a matter of course for us. Therefore, we proactively offer a confidentiality agreement.

Methodically, we work with the modern SCRUM method and are strongly oriented towards the V-model according to VDI/VDE 2206. This combination offers high flexibility with short development times.

Our company specialises in (product) development, process optimisation and project support in the maritime and motorsport sectors. We tailor our services to the individual needs of businesses and private individuals in various industries and help you stay one step ahead of the competition in these competitive markets through efficiency improvements. We focus on areas where digital methods contribute to development productivity. Our portfolio ranges from the creation of simple 3D models for additive manufacturing processes to visualisations for events (e.g. digital exhibition stand models and the development of exhibition concepts including visitor flow), to complex mould construction for composite component manufacturing and entire mechatronic projects - also with smart integration. In doing so, we utilise modern AI tools as cutting-edge instruments to increase productivity and reduce development costs.

We capture the entire boat deck with a high-precision 3D scanner. From these exact measurement data, we create a flat pattern and construct a production-ready 3D CAD file. This digital template goes directly to the manufacturer of the deck covering, who can then mill the segments directly and without intermediate steps on their CNC milling machine.

The traditional boat builder manually draws the deck contours onto a plastic sheet. The manufacturer of the deck covering must then painstakingly digitise this physical sheet and convert it into a CAD model – a time-consuming and error-prone process. We completely skip this step. We deliver a scale-accurate digital twin of the deck that is immediately CNC-ready.

Our CAD data not only includes the exact outer contours of the deck and cut-outs for fittings, hatches or winches, but also the fully constructed joint pattern. This includes all real joints as well as milled fake joints (e.g. fish joints or rebates) for a perfect, classic appearance. The manufacturer can transfer the file 1:1 into the machine control.

Our CAD files are universally usable for all CNC-supported productions. They are suitable for all common synthetic and some natural deck coverings. This includes, among others, cork decks, Flexiteak, EVA foam coverings (e.g. SeaDek), Bottsand Deck. Classic strip decking is made by hand. Although our process can also support here if the individual parts are produced by CNC milling, it will not be able to reduce costs to the same extent as with materials where entire areas are "milled from solid."

Our service is initially about 300 to 500 euros more expensive than simply painting a film by a traditional boat builder. However, this price difference is immediately offset by the manufacturer of the deck covering: Since the manufacturer no longer has to manually digitise templates and no longer has to painstakingly reconstruct joint images, production costs and lead times decrease drastically. In addition, the consistently digital process chain (Scan -> CAD -> CNC) with several quality assurance loops in the process guarantees uncompromising accuracy, eliminating expensive rework on board.

We charge €120 net per hour for work. The cost of a project is therefore largely dependent on how complex the project is. For the 3D scan, we need about 5-10 minutes per square metre, depending on the complexity of the component. The time-consuming tasks are usually in the preparation and follow-up: sticking measuring reference points and marker points (here we have an optimised process for maximum efficiency), spraying components with scan spray if they cannot be scanned (relevant for black and/or reflective parts), removing marker points again, and for large components with high resolution, scanning must be done in individual segments and these must be assembled. If we find during the process that a spot has been scanned poorly, it may be necessary to scan that spot again, which increases the time required. For a large project, for example, when scanning the entire deck of a 40-foot yacht (about 35-40 square metres), you can calculate about 2 hours of preparation, 5 minutes per square metre, and about 2 hours of follow-up. In this project, marker points and possibly scan spray will be used, which also affects the total price. We charge for the use of marker points at €2 per square metre. The scan spray is only used where black/reflective surfaces need to be scanned and is charged at €30 per can after the can has been started. More than one can is not expected for such projects. This results in a total price of approximately €900 - €1000 plus VAT. As a result, you will receive the point cloud and the surface model of your boat deck. If you need further processing of the data (e.g. a deck covering perfectly tailored to your boat), you can get an overview of the calculation for that in the next section.

Here too, we charge 120€ net for the hour of work. With our sophisticated method for creating custom deck covering files, you have the most cost-effective option to configure a deck covering. Whether cork, Flexi-teak, boat sand deck, etc.: Everything is possible. We provide the manufacturer with the exact 3D-CAD file, with which they can produce your deck on the CNC milling machine in the appropriate segments. We will discuss directly with you what appearance the joints in the deck should have and incorporate the joints directly into the file. Do you want to have your own logo, your name, the name of the boat integrated into the deck covering? No problem! We can incorporate all of that directly. Per square metre (approx. 14-17 square metres without cockpit and cabin structure for a 40 foot yacht), we need about 15 minutes for this, so a total of about 3.5h - 4.25h, and thus the design of your individual deck covering will cost you approximately 420 - 510€ plus VAT. In contrast to the conventional method, the deck covering manufacturer receives not just a painted film, from which they must first derive the production file, but directly the finished 3D file of the deck covering. Here lies the essential advantage of our method: We are much faster in model creation than the boat builder with the conventional method and the covering manufacturer when processing further, and thus we are also significantly more cost-effective! With the manufacturer, you only pay for material and production costs, but no design costs anymore!

Let’s compare the traditional method with our modern method: Competing offers for the production of a film with the appropriate surface marking of a 40 foot boat without cockpit and without cabin structure for the surface manufacturer start at around 800€ upwards. However, the surface manufacturer must first create a 3D file from this. This takes quite a bit of time and thus becomes expensive. In our process, the surface manufacturer already receives the finished 3D file that he is to produce. Material into the CNC milling machine, load the file, and off we go. With our costs of 1,100 to 1,300€, we are indeed a bit more expensive than the boat builder who only produces the film, but with our files, the surface manufacturer can get started right away, which ultimately reduces the overall costs!

You have designed a component, you know what material and stability you need, but you lack the printer? No problem, we can also accept such orders on a small scale. We charge a flat fee of €50 for this, plus the material and production costs. If you need a special confidentiality agreement, please let us know. Integrity and confidentiality are a matter of course for us, but sometimes it is simply necessary to secure yourself. If you need advice on materials and/or print settings, we charge based on time spent (€120 net/hour) directly. With our expertise in the field of additive manufacturing processes, we quickly reach the goal.

For a component that we have to design ourselves, the price depends on the exact requirements. A simple 3D-printed component, for which we only need a few hours for development and production, typically falls within the range of 1-4 hours of work effort and minimal material and manufacturing costs. Expect around €150 to €500 net. The more complicated the project becomes, the more time it requires. A prototype for a wing on a racing car, for which we use our CFD-optimised wing profile, can quickly take a whole working day in design depending on the shape requirements. The manufacturing itself using additive manufacturing as a sandwich core and the subsequent laminating using vacuum infusion, and finally the curing in a vacuum oven process for maximum thermal stability, also requires quite a bit of working time. Such projects cannot be realised with prices in the three-digit range. Especially not if a second wing stage is to be added in this example, which is controlled mechatronically. At this point, we also leave the realm of the "simple, individual component". The development of components with this level of complexity is more accurately described as a customer project or product development.

The short answer:

  • That cannot be answered with a blanket statement.

Large projects, especially those that involve not only purely mechanical but also mechatronic development, rarely start in the lower four-digit range. Smaller projects can be set in the mid four-digit range, while complex mechatronic projects with smart integration definitely lie significantly in the five-digit range. We charge €50/h + €0.30/km for travel. For work efforts of 4 hours or more, we waive one hour of time-oriented travel costs for each additional project hour. However, the kilometre flat rate remains. If an overnight stay on site is necessary, we charge a flat rate of €150 per person per night for accommodation. If the accommodation costs deviate significantly upwards or downwards, we reserve the right to adjust this rate individually.
